BSNL launches Rs 995 broadband plan with 200GB data ahead of Jio GigaFiber Aug 15 launch

State-owned telecom company BSNL wants to be one of the top rivals for Jio when it launches its GigaFiber service on August 15 in India. BSNL had once said that it will match Jio tariff-by-tariff and even though the speed that it offers is bad in most places, BSNL till date has tried to match Jio at every step. This time it is the Jio's optical fiber-based internet that is on the rival side.

BSNL has launched a new Rs 995 broadband plan that offers 200GB data at a speed of 20Mbps. However, the plan is available only in Kerala circle. The speed of the internet will slow down to 2Mbps once the FUP limit of 200GB is exhausted. The plan is said to be promotional and will be valid for only 90 days from the day it is launched.

According to a TelecomTalk report, BSNL calls this plan as BSNL FIBRO BBG ULD 995 CS287. Along with the data, BSNL users taking this plan will also get a free email ID with 1GB of space.

At the time when other telecom companies are launching broadband plans with higher FUP limit and additional offerings than just the data, BSNL's Rs 995 plan is a disappointment for the BSNL subscribers. The plan not only offers a poor speed but also disappoints with its poor post FUP speed of 2Mbps. Note that this plan is available only in the Ernakulam SSA of Kerala.

BSNL is reportedly also offering unlimited calling benefits with its FTTH and broadband plans in some circles. This is to battle against Jio GigaFiber plans that are speculated to start Rs 500. Reportedly, BSNL broadband plans are said to offer two types of calling benefits- one that allows unlimited calls on BSNL to BSNL and the another which offers unlimited calls on any network. A report suggests that the BSNL broadband plans worth Rs 645 or above will allow unlimited calling to any network. The company is also giving free night calling benefits on most of its broadband plans.
