Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) is a Public Sector Undertaking of the Government of India under the Ministry of Communications that provides telephony services in Delhi and Mumbai circles. Bharath Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) which is also a Public Sector Undertaking is 100% owned by the Government of India and provides telecom services in the rest of the country excluding Delhi and Mumbai. MTNL was set up in 1986 while BSNL was formed in the year 2000. Both these PSUs have been in news for the last couple of years following the government’s efforts and debates around their revival as both these entities have been making losses for many years now.

State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), which provides mobile, landline and broadband services in all circles (service areas) except Delhi and Mumbai, is likely to turn profitable by the 2023-24 financial year, according to a recent parliamentary panel report.
Government-owned telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) had launched a range of broadband plans in October last year for a promotional period till December. These broadband plans saw an extension of 90 days in January and the telco increased the promotional period till April 4, 2021. It is not clear if the telco will regularise these plans but they are available to consumers as of now. These plans start at Rs 449 and go up to Rs 1499 and are live in these circles.

BSNL has been offering several affordable packs to its prepaid and postpaid customers. Similarly, its Bharat Fibre broadband plans start at Rs. 449, where it is offering 300 Mbps speed. This is again the most pocket-friendly internet pack, which ships 300 Mbps speed as Jio Fiber Rs. 399 pack is providing only 30 Mbps speed, whereas Airtel Xstream Fiber plan of Rs. 499 ships 40 Mbps speed. Besides, BSNL has announced that it is now providing a premium subscription of Disney+ Hotstar with Rs. 999 and Rs. 1,499 plans without any extra cost.
