TRAI consultation paper looks at private sector for BharatNet

for the implementation of BharatNet is looking for participation from
the private sector where companies can build, own, generate income from
the optical fibre network for some time before transferring it back into
public ownership.
This is in addition to the three implementation models proposed by the DoT in April (pdf), after noting that the implementation of NOFN was not moving as per plans. At the time, the DoT also recommended rechristening the project to BharatNet.

Total telephone user base rises to 102.26 crore in September
NEW DELHI: Total telephone subscriber base increased marginally to 102.26 crore at the end of September on the back of rise in wireless users even as the fixed line base continued to fall, Trai said today. As per data shared by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), the total telephone base in the country stood at 101.41 crore at the end of August.

BSNL net loss widens to Rs 8,234 crore in FY15 due to asset depreciation
In a sign of turnaround, state-run telecom operator BSNL on Tuesday reported net loss
stood at Rs 8,234 crore for the fiscal, the same for which was Rs 7,020
crore in last year and the widening is on account of asset depreciation
calculated as per the Companies Act, 2013.
