It has been an
eventful half a century. I first met him when I was a student at Delhi
University and he was a charismatic rising star in the Jan Sangh. I then
worked under him in a long career in the Foreign Service, first when he
was External Affairs Minister and later Prime Minister.

BSNL to launch SIMs without Aadhaar

Less than a fortnight after a news-report carried in these columns
stated that the state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) was
insisting on Aadhaar number and biometric verification for free SIM
cards with a family plan, the telecom claimed that new software was
being developed for Consumer court orders BSNL to pay customer Rs 5,000 for connection delay
AHMEDABAD: A consumer court in Vadodara has ordered the Bharat Sanchar
Nigam Ltd (BSNL) to pay Rs 5,000 to a customer for not providing phone
connection for nearly two months after the telephone was installed in
his house.

To compete better with the private telecom operators, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL),
the government led telco has launched a new Rs 75 prepaid plan. The
private telecom operators have lately been emphasising the price point
around Rs 100 and launching new tariff plans around that mark, BSNL
has advanced its portfolio of offerings by adding the new Rs 75 prepaid
plan to it.
