BSNL-MTNL Merger: Department of Telecom weighing options

The telecom department (DoT) is considering either de-listing Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) and then merging it into Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL), or listing the latter and finalising a merger swap ratio based on the valuation of the two state-run telecom companies, with the first being the more likely option, top government officials told ET.

BSNL issues 5000 free SIM cards in flood hit Kashmir, valid for 7 days

State backed telecom operator BSNL has issued 5,000 SIM connections for distribution in flood affected parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The cards will be given away to locals without ID proof and will be valid for 7 days.
Calls would be free on these 5,000 connections until the end of this week but the cards can be used till next week. The cards are valid only for a limited period in order to avoid its misuse afterwards.

Ravi Shankar Prasad asks Fin Min to hasten I-T refund to BSNL

Telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has exhorted the finance ministry to hasten a pending Rs 7,000-crore income tax refund to Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) in a bid to revive the struggling state-run telecom company before its proposed merger with Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) next year.

BSNL Hikes its broadband tariffs in UP West

BSNL is revising its broadband tariffs throughout the country and has just announced the increase in its tariffs for the Bijnore circle of UP West. These tariffs will come into effect from 1st October 2014. The revised tariffs will be alike for new and existing customers.
