Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Wednesday cancelled its 4G tender that the operator issued in March. The tender required the vendors to deal with the “planning, engineering, supply, installation, testing, commissioning & annual maintenance of 4G mobile network.” BSNL estimated that the winners of the tender would deal with 50,000 sites of BSNL across India and 7000 sites of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) in Delhi and Mumbai circles. Following multiple delays, BSNL had estimated that the tenders would be opened in late June.

Double shock to China: BSNL 4G tender canceled, Chinese companies will also be out of highway project

China has suffered a double setback on the border with India. The Department of Telecom on Wednesday canceled the BSNL tender for 4G upgradation. The tender was canceled after the central government refused BSNL to use the equipment of the Chinese company in the upgrade. At the same time, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari announced a ban on the involvement of Chinese companies in highway projects. Gadkari said that if a Chinese company tries to join the project through a joint venture, it will also be stopped.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on Wednesday cancelled the 4G upgradation tender of PSUs BSNL and MTNL to avoid the Chinese telecom giants Huawei and ZTE make a bid for it.  After the India-China tussle at Galwan valley, Indian officials had  indicated that they would avoid  using Chinese equipment in the the Indian telecom network. Now DoT will issue a new tender with clauses avoiding Chinese companies.
