BSNL to roll out 5G, WiFi services

BSNL will soon roll out high bandwidth WiFi services in select cities in the State by April, Chief General Manager, BSNL AP Circle, V. Srinivasan said here on Tuesday.

BSNL has tied up with US-based Quadgen, which is working with US telecom major service provider AT & T, for the purpose. It is also gearing up to launch 5G services in the State.

Telecom regulator reduces carriage charge by 30 paise

A day after reducing the termination charges, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has reduced carriage charges to 35 paise from 65 paise earlier. This will make STD calls cheaper.
“The ceiling of 65 paise for carriage charge was fixed in 2006. Thereafter, many developments have taken place. New telecom service providers (TSPs) have entered the national long distance... Therefore, the Authority is of the view that there is a strong case to review the carriage charge,” TRAI said.

Cabinet note on hiving off BSNL’s tower assets shortly

Monetization of other passive infrastructure assets could assist the corporation raise Rs 10,000-15,000 crore
The department of telecommunications (DoT) has agreed state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL’s) plan to cream off its tower assets into an entirely owned subsidiary and is in the process of formulating a Cabinet note for the same.
The offer to this effect will be send to the Cabinet quickly for a final approval, a leading official from DoT said.
