BSNL's set to garner around Rs 5,000 crore Revenue from assets monetising

NEW DELHI: In an attempt to bounce back as a profit making entity, state-owned BSNL plans to monetise its assets like land, towers, factories and educational centres as it gets approved by Department of Telecommunications. The company estimates to garner around Rs 5,000 crore annually from monetising its assets. 

Anupam Srivastava, Chairman-cum-Managing Director told Express, “If all the things put together for monetisation we would get around Rs 5,000-6,000 crore every year. We are already in talks with other operators for renting our towers and also with various colleges for turning this huge educational centres into engineering colleges.”

BSNL slashes roaming tariff by up to 40%

State-run telecom operator BSNL yesterday slashed roaming tariff by up to 40 percent for its prepaid and postpaid mobile connection with effect from May 1.

The decision had been taken in the wake of telecom tariff order issued by TRAI, the company said in a statement. Roaming tariff for incoming calls has been cut by 40 percent, STD by 23 percent and 20 percent for local calls.

BSNL may take legal action against operators over dues


State-run BSNL is contemplating legal action against telecom service providers like Loop Telecom, S-Tel, Etisalat among others that have closed their operations but have not paid their dues concerning interconnection usage charges (IUC).
Besides telcos who have shut their shops in India, leading firms namely Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications and yet-to-start Reliance Jio Infocomm in all 49 telecom companies owe Rs 1,142.73 crore to BSNL.

Full number portability: Telcos to fork out Rs 200-300 cr

Telecom service providers will have to fork out Rs 200-300 crore to upgrade their networks and install new equipment for implementation of full mobile number portability (MNP) across the country. MNP allows mobile subscribers to retain their numbers while changing their states/circles.

Earlier, full MNP was to be implemented from May 3 but the government has now extended the deadline by another two months as operators are yet to test the new software. Also, for implementation of full MNP, the current networks of operators have to be reconfigured to treat a mobile user's calls in the new circle as local and vice-versa, besides aligning their network according to the new national numbering plan.

City to get 10 Wi-Fi hotspots this month

By May 15, the ten Wi-Fi zones in major public centres of the city would be operational, said sources in the BSNL, which is implementing the project in collaboration with the Corporation of Kochi and QuadGen Wireless Solutions.

In the first phase of the project, Wi-Fi facility is being made available at the Corporation office, Subhash Park, Marine Drive, High Court, Kaloor bus stand, Edappally, Durbar Hall Ground, High Court, the Court Complex, Mattancherry and Fort Kochi.

BSNL's complete turnaround by 2017-18 : CMD

Backed by a new management, state-owned BSNL looks to regain lost ground by offering Wi-fi at a speed faster than 4G, across the country. In an interview with Prashant Mukherjee, CMD Anupam Srivastava says the company should witness a complete turnaround by 2017-18 with its data business.

BSNL said to target Rs 500-crore revenue by utilizing land bank in FY16

Recently, government approved the appointment of Shri.Anupam Srivastava as the new Chairman and Manging Director (CMD) of the PSU. The new CMD is very much confident about the turnaround of the company by 2017-18 with it's data business.
