BSNL is revising postpaid plans to offer 100 SMS per day benefits, but there is a catch

BSNL has constantly been making changes to its current plans in order to compete better with the likes of Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. While the state-run telco has been able to match its arch rivals in terms of data offerings, the one place it fell behind was with SMS benefits. But not anymore. The company announced recently that it is revising some of its plans to offer 100 SMS per day benefits, as opposed to offering 100 SMS for the entire validity period.


There is a catch though. According to Telecom Talk, BSNL has only made the revision to its postpaid plans, which means prepaid subscribers will not be getting similar benefits. Further, it is applicable only on postpaid plans that cost Rs 399 and more. Not just that, the SMS benefits are also being offered only in Tamil Nadu and Chennai telecom circles at the moment. BSNL made the changes starting August 1. However, the telco is expected to bring the new feature in other circles as well.

BSNL has revised the SMS benefits on its postpaid plans to help bring them at par with their counterparts offered by Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. Both companies offer 100 SMS per day benefits with pretty much all their plans. However, it’s still a little disappointing that BSNL is not giving the same treatment to its prepaid plans as well.

On the other hand, BSNL has made another big change to its postpaid plans. From July 1, the company converted all its postpaid plans to offer unlimited data, meaning users will still get access to 40 Kbps speeds, after exhausting their daily FUP.

Besides that, the company also announced a new entry-level weekly plan for its prepaid subscribers, which starts at only Rs 27. Under that, users get access to data benefits of 1GB on 2G/3G network and 300 SMS benefits for the duration of the plan. The new plan joins existing plans priced at Rs 39 and Rs 50.
