Ericsson brings 'first ever' live demonstration of 5G to India

He, however, did not comment on the financial details of the partnership. As a result of this partnership, Ericsson will work with the Indian telecom giant to create a roadmap for the evolution of this technology in the Indian scenario.


The demonstration using Ericsson's 5G test bed and 5G New Radio (NR) delivered a throughput of 5.7 Gbps and ultra-low latency of 3 millisecond. He also said that Ericsson is committed towards Indian smartphone market in bringing new technologies.

Indian telecom operators such as Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, BSNL and Vodafone-Idea are aiming for their 5G supremacy.

In a major boost to India's telecom sector, 5G technology is expected to play a major role in digitalization of industries in the coming years. This was reported by Ericsson 5G Business Potential Report released recently. 5G will bring new level of performance and characteristics to the telecom networks enabling new services and creating new ecosystems.

The 5G technology exhibition at the Ericsson Connect 2017 in India has featured several 5G use cases and essential technologies on the road to 5G including Gigabit LTE and License Assisted Access (LAA).

On opportunities presented by 5G, Ericsson India's managing director Nitin Bansal said the technology will open up new revenue streams for operators as they go beyond from connectivity and infrastructure providers to become service enablers and service creators.

"The largest opportunity will be seen in sectors like manufacturing, energy and utilities followed by public safety and health sectors", a report by Ericsson said. The operator partners with global vendors and companies for co-creating tailor made solutions.
