BSNL is planning to Wi-Fi 12th South Asian Games, 2016 (SAG, 2016) to be co-hosted by Guwahati and Shillong from February 6-16, 2016. Speaking to TeleAnalysis, Anupam Shrivastava, CMD, BSNL said, “The South Asian Games is being held in Guwahati and Shillong and BSNL is rolling out Wi-Fi in all stadiums.”

93,000 cases disposed of at lok adalats in state

At least 93,477 pre-litigation and 2,931 post-litigation cases were disposed of following mutual compromise at the lok adalats organised in the Patna high court, district courts and subdivisional courts of Bihar on Saturday. According to Bihar State Legal Services Authority's member-secretary Om Prakash, the lok adalats were organised under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority.

The Government of India introduced Swachh Bharat cess of 0.5 percent on service tax with effect from November 2015. All the telecom service, which were charged with 14 percent Service Tax, would be increased to 14.5 percent after levying Swachh Bharat cess. On account of increased service tax, BSNL has revised its CDMA prepaid offering across all the circles.

India rules out BSNL, MTNL sale

Telco minister reportedly seeing positive results from turnaround effort. India's government this week said it is not planning to divest its stakes in state-owned telcos BSNL and MTNL.

The Economic Times reported on Wednesday that during a session of the Lok Sabha – India's lower house of parliament – telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad was asked whether he was drawing up a proposal to privatise the two operators as part of a broader turnaround strategy, to which he said no.

Bangladesh to begin trial runs for exporting bandwidth to India worth Rs 8 crore per year from Tuesday

DHAKA: Bangladesh will trial run transmission of bandwidth export to India from tomorrow in line with a bilateral deal struck earlier this year that is likely to earn Dhaka more than Rs 8 crore annually, officials said today.
"We are set to start the transmission from tomorrow" to Tripura through the northeastern Akhaura-Agartala frontier, state-run Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL) Managing Director Monwar Hossain told PTI.

New Delhi: State-run BSNL is working to provide WiFi services at more airports managed by Airports Authority of India.
"We approached AAI Chairman three months back for providing WiFi services. He actively responded to it. AAI has agreed to allow BSNL services and circulated information to all airports managed by them for allowing BSNL services," BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Anupam Shrivastava told PTI.

BSNL, MTNL do not return deposits

A large number of landline customers of state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) feel cheated as they do not get the refund of the security deposit charged from them at the time of booking the connection.
Though the figures of BSNL could not be obtained, government figures say that MTNL, which has its operations in Delhi and Mumbai, had Rs 555.77 crore as security deposits from customers as on 31 March 2015.
