Penalty for call drop will be levied on network providers from coming month: TRAI

Advocating that harmfulness of radio-waves emitted by mobile towers is a myth, he also stated that mostly towers are being dismantled across the country because of contractual problems and not health and radiation issues.

TRAI is in favour of installation of a common technological platform that may address and resolve grievances of all telecom consumers irrespective of network provider.

Sharma participated at an interactive session organized by MCC Chamber of Commerce, here on Thursday.

Technology based grievance redressal platform will provide more confidence to tele-consumers who often feel that an appellate authority of the service provider may not be impartial, said Sharma.

He further stated that TRAI is participating in awareness building campaigns and interaction with environment activists and other relevant stakeholders to educate people and remove their fear about radio-waves.

Amit Bhattacharya, Chief General Manager of BSNL, Calcutta Telephones also participated in the session and stated, BSNL had roped in maximum customers in June-July this year since they introduced free nighttime call from BSNL landlines to any network and making pan-India roaming free. All these decisions are targeted towards realizing Government of India’s vision of Digital India in which BSNL is playing a vital role.

Bhattacharya further stated, BSNL is one of the three developers of National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) which will connect all gram panchayats in the country. In West Bengal Circle, BSNL  will connect 177 gram panchayats in 18 blocks across four districts within March, 2016.

Till now, connection has been laid across 39 gram panchayats in the state. In parity with Digital India, BSNL is laying thrust on strengthening e-governance infrastructure and providing higher bandwidth. Department of Post and most banks throughout India use BSNL network, he mentioned.
