BSNL announces Rs 499 postpaid plan that rivals offer from Airtel and Vodafone

State-owned telecom operator BSNL has announced another new tariff plan that rivals similar offering from Reliance Jio. BSNL has been at the forefront to counter Jio with tariffs that match or rival Jio despite it not having 4G service in the country. The new tariff plan comes just days after the launch of ‘Data Tsunami’ offer for its prepaid subscribers.

The new tariff plan from the company is priced at Rs 499 and is aimed at postpaid subscribers. With Rs 499 tariff plan, BSNL’s postpaid subscribers will now get as much as 45GB of monthly data. However, this new postpaid plan does not come with data rollover option, reports TelecomTalk. In addition to data, customers also get unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day with Rs 499 postpaid plan.
The plan offers unlimited voice calls to any network even while roaming without any daily or monthly fair usage policy (FUP) limit. BSNL postpaid subscribers enrolling to this plan must use the 45GB data within the current month itself since it does not offer option to carry the unused data to next month. The plan from BSNL rivals similar postpaid plan from Airtel, Vodafone and Idea with more data.

The incumbent telecom players offer 40GB data benefit with their Rs 499 tariff plan, which is 5GB less than BSNL’s tariff plan. However, users get to carry forward the leftover data to next month with Airtel, Vodafone and Idea. The tariff plan also does not rival offering from Reliance Jio in a big way. For record, Reliance Jio is mostly a prepaid service and it only offers one postpaid plan priced at Rs 199. In the prepaid segment, Reliance Jio’s Rs 509 tariff plan comes with validity of 28 days but offers data benefit of 4GB per day. It offers 112GB 4G data with recharge of Rs 509, which trumps BSNL’s data offering in a big way.

BSNL had recently launched Holi Dhamaka postpaid plan priced at Rs 399 that offered data benefits of 30GB, unlimited calls to any network and 100 SMS per day during the billing cycle. The Rs 499 tariff plans adds more data to the offer and multiplies the data benefit. BSNL is expected to commence its 4G operations later this year, which will give it much needed muscle of data speed to fight rivals including Jio and Bharti Airtel.
