Number of BSNL Landline customers continues to decrease in Darbhanga

BSNL Landline service customers continues to decrease due frequent technological faults and poor customer support.According to an estimate , about 7000 landline subscribers have surrendered their handsets in the last five years.There were 19,000 customers in 2010 which has now been reduced to 12,000.

DEHRADUN: Taking a lesson from the 2013 mid-June Kedarnath disaster in which the entire communication network in the hills broke down due to lack of electricity supply for days, Disaster Management and Mitigation Centre (DMMC) has identified about 30 places in nine hilly districts for the installation of low powered solar battery operated mobile towers to ensure uninterrupted network connectivity even during disasters. 

BSNL Dangles Sops to Win Back Lost Ground in Kollam

KOLLAM: BSNL Kollam has started a series of measures to win back its customers and to make itself attractive to new users.
The scheme of free unlimited call facility from 9 pm to 7 am has become an instant hit with the public. BSNL general manager B Rajendran said that it had received more that 2,500 applications for landline connections. Besides that, around 4,000 customers who had discontinued the service have approached BSNL for reconnection to make use of the facility.

DoT swings into action after recent 5G readiness report; trial spectrum allocation likely in coming weeks

NEW DELHI: Applications for 5G trials submitted by Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) are likely to be cleared in the coming two weeks with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) swinging into action following adverse comments in a recent report by the parliamentary committee on IT.

Rs.5,000 crore project for northeast's telecom infrastructure

The central government has launched a Rs.5,000 crore ambitious project for the development of telecommunications in the northeastern states, union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said here on Saturday.
The project will be implemented in the next five years, the minister for communications and information technology said after laying the foundation stone to operationalise the new international internet gateway linking Cox's Bazar in southeast Bangladesh.

Mobiles boost broadband usage by 4.17% during May

NEW DELHI: Mobile users helped give a spurt to broadband usage in the country to touch 104.96 million by the end of May, which signified a monthly growth rate of 4.17 per cent.

It may be recalled that in April this year the broadband users in the country crossed the 100 million mark for the first time.

Controversial mobile technology official says there is no proof of health harm

The statement was made on behalf of BSNL by the chief general manager of the company.

The Northeast circle one chief general manager, D.P. Singh explained that “There is no conclusive study, data or evidences about the bad health or ecological effects of radiations from mobile phones or towers in India,” when speaking about the impact of mobile technology. Mr. Singh was addressing reporters when he made this controversial statement that has caused people from around the world to react in support of or against BSNL’s official perspective on the matter.

Foundation for Indo-Bangladesh Telecom Link Laid in Tripura

In an effort to create a hassle-free and potent Internet link for the northeastern states, union Communication and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday laid the foundation stone in Agartala for an international Internet gateway through Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh.
Agartala, Tripura's capital city, would be the third international Internet gateway in India after Mumbai and Chennai.

25 Wi-Fi hotspots for three districts

As many as twenty five places in the three districts of Dharwad, Gadag and Haveri, including campuses of major educational institutions, would be getting Wi-Fi hotspots in the coming months.

13 BSNL exchanges to be new generation centres

BSNL landline users in Ernakulam and Idukki districts will get to enjoy next generation services like video calls, high-speed browsing and videoconferencing under CUG (closed user group) within a year if the company’s plan to convert 13 of its high-volume telephone exchanges under Ernakulam SSA (secondary switching area), covering Ernakulam, Idukki and the Lakshadweep islands, into next generation network exchanges comes to fruition.
The project has been pilot-tested at Kumbalangi, Palluruthy and Edakochi exchanges.

AIRTEL, IDEA, VODAFONE, BSNL, OTHERS TO ROLL OUT NATIONAL MOBILE NUMBER PORTABILITY

Mobile operators, including Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Vodafone, Reliance Communications (RCom), BSNL and MTNL, will roll out full mobile number portability (MNP) that will allow customers to retain their numbers across the country from Friday.

Other private players like Uninor, Sistema Shyam Teleservices and Videocon are also expected to roll out the service to meet the July 3 deadline fixed by the government.

Will Digital India prove too costly for gram panchayats?

The Union government’s much publicised Digital India programme, under which gram panchayat offices are provided with high-speed internet facility through fibre cable, has attracted objections regarding tariff. Several gram panchayats and officers of the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department have pointed out that the monthly charges fixed for the facility are too high for gram panchayats to bear.
Under the Fibre to The Home (FTTH) programme, gram panchayats are provided high speed (ranging from 10 Mbps to 100 Mbps) internet facility. The minimum cost under this scheme is Rs. 3,999 per month (10 Mbps with up to 50 GB data).

BSNL, MTNL merger decision to be taken in 4-5 months

The decision on merging state-run BSNL and MTNL will be taken in the next four-five months, Telecom SecretaryRakesh Garg said on Friday.
"BSNL, MTNL merger decision will be taken in four-five months after studying the IIM report on it," he said.
Anupam Shrivastava, BSNL chairman-cum-managing director, said MTNL will be delisted before the merger. MTNL stocks rallied 20% intra-day. The stocks were trading 14.46% up at 2.11 p.m in the Bombay Stock Exchange.

BSNL to deploy fibre connections in 5,202 Bihar villages

Indian state-run operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has won the Digital India project in Bihar and 16 other states. The digital divide has to be removed by laying optical fibre in every village (panchayats) to provide broadband connectivity to rural India, The Economic Times reports, citing S L Singh, chief general manager, BSNL, Bihar Circle. The first stage of the project covers 315 blocks and 5,202 gram panchayats, while the second stage includes 219 blocks and 3,152 panchayats.

BSNL aims to connect 2,500 gram panchayats in Bengal through OFC by 2016

Addressing at the Digital India week celebration in New Delhi, BSNL CGM (Bengal circle) Kishore Kumar, said that BSNL will roll out optical fibre connectivity to 2,503 gram panchayats of the state by 2016. 

Telecom giant to connect panchayats

Guwahati: Telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is planning to provide 100 Mbps internet connectivity to 1,091 panchyats in the state by March 2016.

The public-sector company is not alone. Different telecom companies will provide 100 Mbps internet connectivity to over 2,000 panchayats across the state by next year.

Public sector undertaking BSNL today said it will set up mobile towers in all border outposts in Assam by 2017, helping consumers with better connectivity.

BSNL to urge Centre to allow MNP in North East

Shillong: BSNL will pursue the telecom ministry to allow Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in the north eastern region, a senior company official today said.
"I'll try to ensure that the MNP service is extended to NE states. I'll raise this issue with the Union minister who will be visiting Agartala later this month," BSNL NE1, chief general manager, DP Singh told reporters in Shillong.

BSNL Launches Mobile Wallet

BSNL, the State-run operator has launched a pre-paid card combined with a mobile wallet service on July 4. The service will permit its customers to transfer cash, buy services as well as withdraw money of up to Rs 1 lakh. Speed Pay, the wallet service can be used by a client to load cash even with the lack of a bank account.

There is no decisive data or evidence so far to show that radiations from mobile phones or towers have adverse health or environmental effects in India, a top BSNL official here said.
