KOCHI:The decision by the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) to change
the rules for annual pre-paid data package by imposing monthly limit
from this month is drawing flak from customers. In a message sent to
customers, the public sector firm said, “the bundled free data will be
credited on a monthly basis, instead of the earlier ‘12-month
consolidated’ basis. Every month, free usage will be credited and the
previous month’s balance will be cleared. Additional data can be availed
using Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs). If the data-plan voucher is again
used before the plan expiry, the benefits will be given afresh.”

Ahead of spectrum auction, telecom sector gets no relief Our Bureau
Mumbai, March 1: Every year the
Government gets about ₹40,000 crore from telecom operators but when it
comes to the Union Budget this is one sector which has always been
disappointed. This year too there was nothing for telecom companies even
as they gear up for the spectrum auction to start on March 4.
“While a few proposals in the Union Budget may help growth of telecom
and broadband, overall, the industry’s concerns and submissions have
been left unanswered. With the Government’s thrust on the Digital India
initiative, a more supportive budget was expected for the telecom
sector,” said Rajan S Mathews, Director General, COAI.
Landline STD calls to cost 30% less
Long-distance calls might get cheaper by 30 per cent said Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, after the telecom regulator reduced carriage charges.
“We are working on it and will pass on the benefits to our users. The STD tariffs, if you call from landline, should come down by about 30 per cent. The new tariffs will be announced with effect from April 1,” BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Anupam Shrivastava told Business Standard.

BSNL employees stage protest
The Dharwad Telecom District Committee of Karnataka
State BSNL Non Permanent Workers Union staged a protest here on
Wednesday seeking benefits that are due for the contract employees.

they were forced to face hardships and their rightful demands were not

AGRA: The e-ticketing facility at the Taj Mahal is still not fully operational and BSNL is reportedly to blame. According to reports, the inordinate delay on the part of Bharat
Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in laying down leased internet lines has
proved costly for the Archaeological Survey of India, which was supposed
to make the facility available at all three gates of the monument by
February 28.

residence at Nagagaon colony, Signal Basti area Dimapur on Sunday at
around 9 p.m.

State-tun telecom company BSNL is investing an over Rs 11,000 crore to improve its all-round services including strengthening network, modernising telephone exchanges and installing mobile towers in the naxal-dominated areas, Parliament was informed on Wednesday.

Oil explorer ONGC was the country's most profitable PSU in 2013-14, while telecom major BSNL was the worst performer, says the Economic Survey. The pre-budget survey for 2014-15 said the net profit of 163 profit-making CPSEs during 2013-14 was Rs 1,49,164 crore, while the net loss of 71 loss-making CPSEs was Rs 20,055 crore.

Against the trend of rising mobile internet tariff, state-run telecom
company BSNL is likely to cut its 3G data rates by at least 50 per cent
once the next phase of its network expansion is completed.
“We estimate that 3G data rates can be reduced by at least 50 per cent
compared to prevailing rates under phase 8 of our network expansion,”
BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Anupam Shrivastav told PTI in an interview.
Public Wi-Fi Hot spots BSNL
BSNL has started rolling out Public Wi-Fi Hot spots in major cities, shopping malls, colleges etc across India. Telecom Minister Sri. Ravi Shankar Prasad inaugurated BSNL's Free Wi-Fi project in Varanasi Ghats.
To have a better mobile broadband experience to customers, BSNL plans to deploy Wi-Fi Off load solution on PAN India basis. Wi-Fi Off load solution aims for Off-loading Mobile data traffic from 2G/3G Mobile services whenever mobile users enter into Wi-Fi hot spot zone.
How it works?
When a mobile customers with active data connection enters into Wi-Fi hot spot zone, the mobile data traffic from 3G/2G network will switch to Wi-Fi network.

"BSNL
and MTNL are taking several steps to enhance revenues through
investments to strengthen its network and focus on consumer care and
service delivery to improve quality of service," Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha on 25-02-2015.
Both companies have drastically lost their subscriber base mainly due to inadequate investment
that led to network coverage issues, inability to compete with private
sector telecom firms with regard to marketing and customer satisfaction,
he said.

When you make a STD call to a number outside your telecom circle,
your network operator is required to transfer your call to an operator
which has National long distance (NLD) telephony license, who in turn
transfers your call to the recipient network in another circle. The NLD
operator charges a carriage fee to the network on which the call
originates for carrying it over the long distance. This leads to STD
calls being costlier than local calls.

Pan India number portability from 3rd May 2015
Telecom regulatory authority of India has yesterday issued the 6th
amendment to the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability Regulation
which was in place since 2009. The DOT had notified all telecom
operators on 3rd November 2014 to prepare their systems for the
implementation of full Pan India number portability to be in place in
six months from the date of issue of the notification which comes to 3rd
May 2015. This date has been made official by TRAI in the latest
amendment.

TRAI had also floated a consultation paper to the operators regarding the handling of issues pertaining to disconnection of postpaid numbers in case of the bill not being settled with the donor network before porting to the recipient network and regarding the lock-in period with the new operator before porting the number again. With the inputs received from the operators, TRAI has issued new guidelines with regards to these issues as well in the 6th amendment.

Now a days we are all addicted to have wireless mobile technology, we
