BSNL to roll out 5G, WiFi services

BSNL will soon roll out high bandwidth WiFi services in select cities in the State by April, Chief General Manager, BSNL AP Circle, V. Srinivasan said here on Tuesday.

BSNL has tied up with US-based Quadgen, which is working with US telecom major service provider AT & T, for the purpose. It is also gearing up to launch 5G services in the State.

“We have identified 10 towns, including Guntur, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati, which will soon have high-speed WiFi services. In each town, we will provide WiFi hotspots to universities, public spaces like bus stations and railway stations. High-speed connectivity will be one of the primary growth drivers in development of the State,” Mr. Srinivasan said.

BSNL will also roll out WiFi services for retail customers, while others will have to simply recharge their accounts. Stating that mobile connectivity will increase in future, as mobile telephony has emerged as the biggest platform for a host of e-commerce services, Mr. Srinivasan said BSNL had plans to increase its penetration in mobile telephony. More than 5 lakh new SIM cards will be released in the market in the coming months, he added.
