BSNL to now tackle JioFiber: Cable TV, broadband and landline to come in under one bill

The launch of Reliance JioFiber was expected to introduce massive changes in the broadband and DTH industry with radical pricing structure. While that has gained momentum or not is yet to be seen, rival BSNL is already going ahead with a similarly structured plan for its broadband services in select circles. And if things go well, we could see this new all-in-one bill service from BSNL broadband across the country.

According to a report from Telecom Talk, BSNL is now coming up with a new all-in-one kind of service similar to Reliance JioFiber subscription. It may or may not be called the Triple Play Plan but it will be quite similar to JioFiber plans in terms of what may be offered to the customer. And it is suggested that BSNL's offering will be cheaper.

The new all-in-one bill concept will be implemented first in select south-eastern circles and BSNL could look to integrate its landline and broadband service with this. The TV service will be sourced from local cable operators and BSNL might only decide the package prices for the subscriber. And as part of the package, the subscriber will get an ONT device that acts as the hub for accessing all the three services.

It remains to be seen what combination BSNL offers as part of its 'triple play plan'. JioFiber subscribers are entitled to high-speed broadband services with a minimum of 100Mbps network speed and a maximum of 1Gbps speed, even the cheaper plans have lower data allotment. It remains to be seen whether BSNL will offer its regular cable-based broadband with slower speeds of up to 15Mbps or offer its Bharat Fiber services with higher data speeds.

Additionally, JioFiber is offering free calls to any network within India from its landline service and it remains to be seen whether BSNL does the same or does it restrict free calls to fewer minutes similar to its telecom plans.

As for the pricing, BSNL could aim to undercut JioFiber with its pricing and there are chances that we could see plans starting from under Rs 700 per month for the basic plan. BSNL might offer higher data allotment which could make the deal sweeter for subscribers. However, the quality of services is still something that remains to be seen.
