BSNL starts updating prepaid plans with free calls to MTNL numbers

Following the approval of a merger between BSNL and MTNL, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has started revising some of its prepaid plans with free calls to MTNL numbers, a facility which was unavailable prior to the merger.

BSNL is now offering free calls to MTNL numbers across three different plans for prepaid users. These plans include the Rs 429, Rs 485 and Rs 666 which previously existed. For those of you who don’t know, BSNL’s network operates across 20 circles in India while MTNL offers its services in Delhi and Mumbai. Previously, BSNL’s plans didn’t include free voice calling to MTNL numbers in Delhi and Mumbai and that is what has changed now.

Prepaid users recharging with Rs 429, Rs 485 and Rs 666 on BSNL can now avail unlimited voice calling to MTNL numbers. The operator is, however, still sticking to its daily limit of 250 minutes of voice calling. Once the limit is over, customers need to pay 1 paisa per second and this FUP limit will be reset after midnight every day.

The Rs 429 BSNL prepaid plan comes with 1GB daily data for 81 days and free voice calling to any network including MTNL. The Rs 485 plan brings 1.5GB data per day for 90 days with the same voice calling benefits. The Rs 666 plan provides users with a validity of 122 days, 1.5GB data per day and free voice calling to any network including MTNL.

The latest move from BSNL comes a day after the Union Cabinet approved the merger of BSNL and MTNL. At the time, the Cabinet also approved infusion of Rs 15,000 crore into BSNL via sovereign bonds, a voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) and also allocated 4G airwaves.

Earlier this week, BSNL extended the availability of the Rs 108 prepaid recharge plan until December 12, 2019. The plan offers unlimited voice calling benefits, 500 SMS messages and 1GB data per day for 28 days. The state-run company also extended the availability of Rs 1,188 plan for another 90 days. The Rs 1,188 plan comes with a validity of 345 days and it offers 5GB of 2G/3G/4G data, unlimited voice calling to any network and 1,200 SMS messages for a year.
