BSNL-MTNL Merged To Get Back On Track And Fight Private Telecom Companies Together

The government is also bringing along a new strategy to get these companies back on track in the form of sovereign bonds, monetising assets and VRS or voluntary retirement schemes for employees.
As per the new decision, BSNL will absorb MTNL, post which MTNL will act as a subsidiary of BSNL. Oddly enough, MTNL is listed on NSE (National Stock Exchange) but is suffering from poor net worth. BSNL, on the other hand, remains unlisted.

BSNL who suffered an approximate loss of Rs 14,000 crores has still not paid salaries to their employees. It spends an average of 850 crores monthly with 1.76 lakh staff members on its payroll.
