Dhanbad, Ranchi in Jharkhand have highest 4G availability in India, Delhi and Mumbai don't fare in top 10

It has been a few years since 4G networks have been in India. After Jio's 4G VoLTE boom in 2016, the county has witnessed faster access to the Internet, resulting in growth of digital services. Presently, 4G is the mainstream network and with 5G knocking on the door, things can only get better for consumers. Research firm Opensignal recently conducted research on the availability of 4G networks and the coal town from the state of Jharkhand has come out as the city in India with the best 4G availability.

According to the research, Dhanbad topped the chart with 95.3 per cent 4G availability in the city. This is the highest any Indian city has managed to gather. The city in the second spot is Jharkhand's capital city Ranchi with a score of 95 per cent. Jammu and Kashmir's capital city Srinagar came in at third with a score of 94.9 per cent. Chattisgarh's capital city Raipur grabbed the fourth spot with a score of 94.8 per cent while Patna rounded up the top-five list with a score of 94.5 per cent.
Most of the cities in India managed to score above 90 per cent of 4G availability. However, 12 cities struggled to make it above 90 per cent, including two metro cities of Delhi and Mumbai. The national capital of India only managed to score 89.8 per cent of 4G availability while Mumbai followed with a score of 89.7 per cent. The urban area to score the least with 4G availability of 87 per cent is Vasai-Virar, which forms the suburbs of Mumbai.
The Indian telecom sector is presently entertaining four 4G players - Jio, Airtel, Vodafone and Idea. Airtel was one of the first ones to bring the 4G network to the country. Vodafone followed up with its own 4G network. However, the boom in the industry only took place by 2016 when Reliance Jio showed with its 4G LTE network. Jio made the 4G VoLTE network more accessible and affordable to the masses. Competition led to the development of 4G networks by rival service providers, resulting in the higher 4G network availability.
Presently, state-owned carrier BSNL is also testing its 4G VoLTE network in certain circles across the country. BSNL is late to the 4G party but the operator could undercut the private players with lower prices and a wider reach into rural areas.
