Anupam Shrivastava chairman and managing director of BSNL was quoted by PTI as saying, “We have signed an agreement with Softbank and NTT Communications to roll out 5G and IoT products and services in India. Under the agreement, we will look at a solution especially for the smart cities.”
“We have benefitted by lead taken by our minister (Manoj Sinha). He has held various meetings at the global level on 5G. We capitalised on those opportunities and signed agreement for the next generation technology,” he added.
He further also said, “3G was launch in India after seven years the technology was available in other foreign markets and 4G services after four years lag but 5G will be launched in India in 2020 as soon the standards are freezed by ITU,”
Under the agreement, BSNL will partner with Japanese firm for its satellite constellation to provide high-speed internet services in the country.
Previously, On 1st February, the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented the annual budget 2018-19 in Parliament and along declared that the Department of Telecom will set up a development centre to work on 5G advancements in association with IIT, Chennai.
5G technology is as yet being standardized internationally and India has the chance to lead the pack in the advancement of this technology. 5G will empower applications like the Internet of things and machine-to-machine internet.
