The battle for supremacy in the telecom industry is getting intense
with each passing day. Telecom companies are launching lucrative and
cheaper offers with more freebies in a bid to attract customers and also
arrest migration. The battle for the best started after Reliance Jio
entered the fray and
changed the landscape of the industry with its
near-free data plans, forcing other operators to take cue. Now, after
Airtel and Vodafone, Idea Cellular has launched new data plans for its
prepaid customers. The new prepaid plan is for Rs 109 and offers
unlimited voice calls. Apart from unlimited calling, customers will also
get 100 SMSes per day and 1GB 3G/4G data. The plan is valid for 14
days.
Idea will also aloow its users to make calls for 250 minutes per day
and 1000 minutes per week as part of the plan. After the user exhausts
the daily and weekly limit, the telecom operator will charge them with 1
paisa per second for every call made. The plan is being initially made
available in some selected telecom circles for now. A subscriber can
avail the pack by recharging via Idea’s official website or through the
My Idea app.
Idea’s new prepaid plan will compete against Airtel’s Rs 93 plan and
Reliance Jio’s Rs 98 plan. Airtel’s Rs 93 plan offers 1GB data to its
customers with unlimited calling for 28 days. Meanwhile, Jio’s Rs 98
plan offers its users with 2GB data with unlimited calling and is also
valid for 28 days.
Recently, Idea revised its postpaid plans too. The telecom company
had rejigged its postpaid plans of Rs 499, Rs 649, Rs 999, Rs 389, Rs
1299, Rs 1699 and Rs 2999. After the revamp of the plans, it provides
more data to its users.
Meanwhile, state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam on Tuesday introduced
unlimited prepaid mobile plans starting at Rs 99 for the Calcutta
telecom circle to take on rising competition. The new plan starts at Rs
99 for 26 days and Rs 319 for 90 days with unlimited voice calls with
roaming, except in Delhi and Mumbai. At Rs 999, the company will offer
unlimited calls and 1GB/day high-speed data for 181 days.
