Bengaluru-based startup WiFi Dabba, offering 1GB data at Rs 20 cheaper than Jio

Following Jio Launch last year with free voice and cut-price data, The telecom wars started In India.  To tackle jio, India’s leading telecom companies Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, BSNL and many others are coming up with a new value for money plans to customers.
part from these telecom giants,  This Bengaluru-based start-up offering 1GB data at Rs 20 which is valid for 24 hours.

This Bengaluru-based startup called Wifi Dabba is attempting to sell data at even lower prices than that of Jio. This is a 13-month old company, backed by Y Combinator,  that believes data cost in India is very high at present. “We believe that even after the launch of Jio there is a lot of room for price wars to happen and we are certain that we can drop the prices even further,” says Shubhendu Sharma Co-founder of Wifi Dabba told Economic Times.

Wifi Dabba currently offering customers data at a fraction of existing prices. Where Jio’s lowest plan is of Rs 19 for 150 MB for one day (followed by unlimited access at 64 kbps), Wifi Dabba offers plans for as low as Rs 2 under which the consumers will get 100 MB. It also offers 500 MB at Rs 10 and 1GB of data at Rs 20. The validity of all three data plans is 24 hours. However, It don’t offer voice calling. Whereas Jio connection comes with free voice calls, SMS, and subscription of Jio’s suite of apps .

Wifi Dabba offers data as prepaid tokens sold via tea shops and local banyas. Customers need to key in mobile numbers and fill the OTP for verification purposes and key in the token to connect to the internet. Wifi Dabba promises a 50 Mbps connection in a radius of 100-200 metres around the WiFi point, with around 350 of them installed around the city.

Currently, WiFi Dabba services are only available in Bengaluru, with company planning to roll out its network of fiber optics across India soon.
