Aiming to add 31 m new 3G/4G users BSNL issues fresh tender for equipments

With the aim of adding 31.02 million new users of its 3G/4G services across the country State-owned telecommunication company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd that is BSNL has invited bids from equipment makers. The value of the contract to be given out is not mentioned by BSNL but we get to hear from industry sources that the purchase is estimated to be worth more than $ 1 billion.

As per the tender document, the company will accept bids for new equipment to be purchased latest till July 1.The new tender came at the same time when we find that BSNL is focused on expansions and aiming to turn profitable by 2020. BSNL had an operating profit of Rs 672 crore during the last financial year, while its revenue grew by 4.16 percent that is approximately INR 28,645 crore. For giving tough competition to their competitors and for adding new users, this new equipment is essential for BSNL.

Earlier due to tough competition from private operators like  Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone India, the company was lagging behind in adding subscribers, while their competitors were found to be adding new users at a faster pace. But now the picture is different, we find in the last two years things have improved. We find BSNL planning to give a tough fight to their competitors by going in for a phased tendering system not only to add new users but also to expand networks.
