BSNL and MTNL are offering 3G data card by bundling the 3G SIM with the data card device of Terracom, Capital Data cards, so if you are using 3G data card of BSNL finding some problem in getting connected then below is some troubleshooting tips which can be of some help.
BSNL 3G Data Card Troubleshooting Guide
If you have just purchased
1. The SIM which you get from service center normally takes some time in activation at their end. When your SIM is activated you get some message. But once the SIM is activated at their end you need to make a call to certain number to get it activated. So ask about the full procedure clearly at point of purchase.
2. Data card driver gets automatically installed the moment you connect it to your PC. However on MAC OS it may be problematic sometime. Get help from data card company through their call center.
3. From the network in setting tab of the user interface of Data Card software, choose UMTS/3G/WCDMA preffered. It is then only your data card will select 3G network and will automatically switch to 2G if 3G network is not available in any area.
4. Select the correct 3G setting if it’s already their inbuilt and if not ask it at customer care or point of purchase. Setting for postpaid and prepaid are different so be careful that you select the correct setting.
5.Once driver gets installed and setting done restart the computer once and then connect.
The above steps may appear to be complicated so it’s better to get clear idea of everything at point of purchase. But once when your data card starts getting connected then service is very good and reliable. It hardly takes seconds to get connected and speed is amazing, overall it’s very efficient and convenient to use.

If you have been using it for some time and suddenly you find it difficult to connect then try few things
1.See whether your PC is able to detect the data card device and SIM if not then there may be one of the following reasons
i.) Virus in PC.
ii.) Data Card connector may have gone faulty
iii) SIM may not be properly inserted or might have been damaged
2. See whether correct setting is selected
3. Sometimes even when you are getting 3G network you may not get connected. In that case try to connect with 2G network. For that go to network selection in driver interface and select 2G /GSM network only and then connect. Many times when 3G network doesn’t work you get connected to 2G network. This is an standby option.
