"BSNL expects to turn profitable in next four years or so, for which BSNL is taking several steps like augmentation of mobile network," telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

Loon Project: India asks Google to choose telco partner

The government has asked search engine giant Google to select a telecom operator in India for testing its Loon Project, the balloon-based internet technology.
If Google wants to conduct a test with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), it can carry out the experiment in the spectrum held by the state-owned company, an official said.

Google’s Project Loon is based around using balloons carrying networking equipment to be floated around 20,000 meters, or 65,000 feet, above the ground in the stratosphere and above commercial airliners and most air traffic.

New Delhi: Government has asked Google to select a telecom operator as partner for testing the balloon-based internet technology, Loon Project, in the country.
"Google wants to test the Loon Project in expensive and scarce spectrum bands. It has been asked to partner with any telecom operator that can meet its requirement and then approach the government for testing Loon," an official source told PTI.

The Cabinet on Wednesday gave an 'in-principle' approval to hive off tower assets, a person familiar with the development said.

BSNL will take final call on closure of wimax service at some locations

New Delhi : State-owned telecommunications company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), has decided to close down its wimax service in some circles, where there are less customers and sites are faulty.

An official of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited said that, "There are around 1.15 to 1.2 lakh wimax customers on BSNL network across 20 BSNL telecom circles.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has warned telephone subscribers against payment of telephone bills through Paytm mobile wallet transaction system.
A press note issued by the Chief General Manager, BSNL, here on Monday said Paytm was not authorised to collect BSNL bill payments. BSNL, it said, would disconnect the services of customers who remit payments through Paytm.

Following the boycott warning from Hurriyat faction led by Syed Ali Geelani, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) suspended circulation of obscene Short Messaging Services (SMSs) to its subscribers in Jammu and Kashmir from Monday.
General Manager BSNL, Kashmir, Saleem Beigh told Rising Kashmir that circulation of obscene SMSs to subscribers has been stopped and subscribers will not get such messages in future.
