Following the boycott warning from Hurriyat faction led by Syed Ali Geelani, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) suspended circulation of obscene Short Messaging Services (SMSs) to its subscribers in Jammu and Kashmir from Monday.
General Manager BSNL, Kashmir, Saleem Beigh told Rising Kashmir that circulation of obscene SMSs to subscribers has been stopped and subscribers will not get such messages in future.
“I immediately took notice of the issue after coming to know about it through newspapers today,” said Beigh.
He said such SMSs were generated from the BSNL’s nodal office in Chandigarh.
“BSNL subscribers will never get such massages in future as the issue has been solved amicably after taking it up with the Chandigarh office,” he added.
Meanwhile, Beigh said BSNL has constituted many teams to improve the service across Kashmir during winters. “We are also laying fiber cable in many parts of the valley for better connectivity,” he added.
Hurriyat Conference (G) had urged people of Jammu and Kashmir to boycott BNSL services if it (BSNL) does not stop sending obscene messages to its subscribers.
BSNL subscribers said despite complaining to BSNL’s Srinagar office and customer care, circulation of obscene messages was not stopped.
“I regularly used to get obscene SMSs. My friends also get these dirty SMSs,” said Javid Ahmad a BSNL subscriber from Batamaloo.
“It seems as if BSNL is indulging in flesh trade. Such immoral SMSs must be stopped or we will switch over to other telecom services,” a group of BSNL subscribers told Rising Kashmir.
