Guwahati: Telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is planning to provide 100 Mbps internet connectivity to 1,091 panchyats in the state by March 2016.

Public sector undertaking BSNL today said it will set up mobile towers in all border outposts in Assam by 2017, helping consumers with better connectivity.
"So far, we were not allowed to set up towers in border areas due to security reasons. After the government approved the proposal, now we are in the process of setting up the towers in each border outpost," BSNL Chief General Manager (Assam Telecom Circle) Rajiv Yadav told reporters here.

Shillong: BSNL will pursue the telecom ministry to allow Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in the north eastern region, a senior company official today said.
"I'll try to ensure that the MNP service is extended to NE states. I'll raise this issue with the Union minister who will be visiting Agartala later this month," BSNL NE1, chief general manager, DP Singh told reporters in Shillong.

The service will permit its customers to transfer cash, buy services as well as withdraw money of up to Rs 1 lakh. Speed Pay, the wallet service can be used by a client to load cash even with the lack of a bank account.

There is no decisive data or evidence so far to show that radiations from mobile phones or towers have adverse health or environmental effects in India, a top BSNL official here said.

Broadband subscriber market share released by TRAI
According to TRAI data, the number of broadband subscribers increased 1.57 percent to 100.76 million in April 2015 from 99.20 million in March 2015.
The share of Bharti Airtel in the Indian broadband market including wireless and wireline in April 2015 was 22.46 percent, Vodafone 20.15 percent, BSNL 17.88 percent, Idea Cellular 14.9 percent and Reliance Communications 8.02 percent.

Thursday, June 04, 2015, Agra: Tourists visiting the Taj Mahal will be able to enjoy 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi usage from June 16. For every additional hour, Rs 30 would be charged. The project is a part of the Central government’s ‘digital’ initiative. According to sources, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has collaborated with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for this service.

BSNL is in discussions with MTS to offer Co-branded 4G services across India
As per the latest information from reliable sources, State run telecom operator and National telecom backbone, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is discussions with MTS, the Indian unit of Russian telecom company Sistema, to offer 4G telecom services across the country.

BSNL & MTS will be offering 4G services through joint branding. As per latest media reports, a senior BSNL official said - "We are in the final stages of discussions with MTS and are awaiting the government's policy on spectrum sharing and trading, expected to be announced soon."
Currently, MTS offers services across nine telecom circles, while BSNL offers telecom services in all except two circles - Delhi and Mumbai. Both companies sought to combine their

The new service tax rate of 14 percent will come into effect from 1st June 2015 onwards across India. The service tax is currently levied at the rate 12.36 percent including education cess. The education cess and secondary and higher education cess shall be subsumed in the new service tax rate.
Service tax is applicable to all services ranging from train tickets and restaurant bills to telephone ( landline / mobile ) bills and tariff. Prepaid Recharge tariffs advertised by the operator are inclusive of service tax while postpaid tariffs advertised are exclusive of service tax.
