BSNL, which is now seemingly on the way to recovery, has now
announced that its 5GB broadband plan could be availed for no extra
cost. This means that the plan is now free to check out. This comes
after the government-led telco added extra validity of 90 days to its
annual Rs 1699 scheme which was earlier valid for 365 days.
In related news, BSNL has made the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) live under the revised policy as announced by the central government. This is applicable to all permanent employees. The telco is said to be expecting nearly 80000 employees to avail the benefits of this VRS scheme.
Also, the merger of MTNL with BSNL has no resulted in the latter offering free calls in the regions where the former was fledging. This includes the telecom circles of Delhi and Mumbai. Earlier, BSNL's free-unlimited tariff plans were not applicable in these areas. Finally, the telco is expected to roll out full-fledged 4G services shortly. The government has allocated 4G spectrum to BSNL. Tests are now nearing completion. The telco could get on the 4G bus in India very soon. BSNL also recently trended hugely on micro-blogging site Twitter under the hashtags "India need BSNL", "BSNL 4G" and " Switch to BSNL" respectively.

Now, the 5GB broadband scheme offers speed of 10Mbps which is a USP of the offering. Now, this offer is valid for BSNL’s fixed-line subscribers desirous of checking out broadband services.
