BSNL is offering unlimited voice calling for a year with its Wings VoIP service

State-owned telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has just launched its latest service in Puducherry. This new service is a new voice over internet protocol (VoIP) or Internet Telephony facility that will allow its users to make voice calls over the internet.
According to a report by Telecomtalk.info, this new service will be known as “BSNL Wings” and the company has worked on this service according to the guidelines provided by telecom regulator TRAI. The report pointed out that this service is meant to connect people “in the backward areas of the country” that may have an internet connection but may not have a cellular connection.
The report clarified that as part of BSNL Wings service, users can make voice calls from any internet service provider or operator. Users can also make calls with the help of public Wi-Fi internet hotspots if they have access to one. To do so, users simply need to download the Wings mobile app on their smartphone and pay a one-time charge of Rs1,099 for a year. As part of this service, BSNL Wings also allows Wings app to Wings video calling.

According to the report, the interesting part about this service is that with the help of this service, Wings users can also make voice or video calls to any fixed or portable device without the need for a SIM card. This means that one can make calls from their desktops, laptops., or even mobile phones without any SIM.
To get started, before starting to make calls, subscribers of the Wings app would need to download SIP (Sessions Initiation Protocol) to get a 10-digit subscription ID as pointed by the report. Once they get the 10-digit subscription ID, they will also get a 16-digit PIN on their email address to activate the BSNL Wings app.

One thing to note here is that this app can also allow users to make international calls but users will need to make an ISD deposit of Rs 2000 and the calls will be charged in accordance to the existing landline to international call charges.
