Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the latest telecom subscription data as on 31st August 2015. National telecom backbone, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) continued its stunning performance in Wireless Subscriber addition in the of August 2015 also.
As we reported in the previous month, BSNL added around 4.8 lakhs of subscribers in July 2015. Now as per the latest TRAI Report, the PSU added more than 8.1 lakhs new wireless subscribers in August 2015. In Wireless Subscriber addition, BSNL registered a monthly growth rate of 1.04 percentand secured the Top Three position.
Among BSNL units, all telecom circles achieved positive growth in wireless subscriber addition except Andha Pradesh, Bihar & North East during the month of August 2015. The Top performers are UP East (+1,77,754), Haryana (+1,33,765), UP west (+99,722), Kerala (+86,452), Madhya Pradesh (+74,851).
As per this report, the total number of broadband subscribers increased from 111.32 million at the end of July 2015 to 117.34 million at the end of August 2015with monthly growth rate of 3.55%.
BSNL holds the No.1 position in Landline segment with 60.53% market share.Airtel holds the No.1 position in Broadband segment (Wired + Wireless) position with 23.78% market share and Vodafone at second position with 19.77% market share as on 31st August 2015.
Top five service providers constituted 83.81% market share of total broadband subscribers at the end of August 2015. These service providers were Bharti Airtel (27.90 million), Vodafone (23.20 million), BSNL (18.91 million), Idea Cellular Ltd (18.12 million) and Reliance Communications Group(10.21 million).
The total number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1009.31 million at the end of July 2015 to 1014.70 million at the end of August 2015,thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.53%.
Total wireless subscriber base increased from 983.21 million at the end of July 2015 to 988.69 million at the end of August 2015, thereby registering a monthly growth rate of 0.56%.
As on 31st August, 2015, the private access service providers held 91.68% market share of the wireless subscribers whereas BSNL and MTNL, the two PSUs access service providers, held only 8.32% market share.
In Wired Broadband segment, BSNL holds the No.1 position with 9.92 million customers, followed by Bharati Airtel with 1.54 million customers.

Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
In the month of August 2015, a total of 4.31 million subscribers submitted their requests for MNP. Among these MNP requests, 0.36 million MNP requests were for Inter-Service Area MNP.
With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 167.91 million at the end of July 2015 to 172.22 million at the end of August 2015.
