TRAI Report Card February 2015: State run PSUs (BSNL & MTNL) leads in Wireline Services with 75.44% Market Share

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the latest telecom subscription data as on 28th February 2015. As per this report, the number of broadband subscribers increased from 94.49 Million at the end of January 2015 to 97.37 million at the end of February 2015 with monthly growth rate of 3.05%.

BSNL maintained the No.1 postion in the Wireline (Landline) segment with a market share of 62.26%. In Wired Broadband segment, BSNL holds the No.1 position with 9.98 million customers. In wireless broadband segment, Bharati Airtel holds the No.1 position with 18.87 million customers. 

The total number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 979.21 million at the end of January 2015 to 987.30 million at the end of February 2015, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.83%.


Total wireless subscriber base increased from 952.34 million at the end of January 2015 to 960.58 million at the end of February 2015, thereby registering a monthly growth rate of 0.86%. 

As on 28th February, 2015, the private access service providers held 91.56% market share of the wireless subscribers whereas BSNL and MTNL, the two PSUs access service providers, held only 8.44% market share.

Top five service providers constituted 83.53% market share of total broadband subscribers at the end of February 2015. These service providers were Bharti Airtel (20.88 million), BSNL (20.67 million), Vodafone (17.93 million), Idea Cellular Ltd (14.08 million) and Reliance Communications Group (7.78 million).

  1.     BSNL (9.98 million)
  2.     Bharti Airtel (1.43 million)
  3.     MTNL (1.14 million)
  4.     Atria Convergence Technologies (0.65 million)
  5.     YOU Broadband (0.44 million)

Top Five Wireless Broadband Service providers as on 28th Feruary 2015
  1.     Bharti Airtel (19.45 million)
  2.     Vodafone (17.92 million)
  3.     Idea Cellular (14.08 million)
  4.     BSNL (10.69 million)
  5.     Reliance Communications (7.67 million)
