The state-run telco, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced its international roaming services. In the first phase, the telecom operator will offer international prepaid roaming facility win five countries according to a release by BSNL Chennai circle. These countries include France, Sweden, Thailand, Iceland and Afghanistan.
As of now, the international prepaid roaming facility is available only to the BSNL prepaid users in the Chennai circle. According to the release, the international prepaid roaming facility in these countries is already up since January 16th, 2021. Let’s take a look at all details of the new BSNL prepaid international roaming feature.
As mentioned before, BSNL has started its international roaming services in France, Sweden, Thailand, Iceland and Afghanistan. The telco stated that it has enabled the international roaming facility with Hi3G in Sweden, Bouyges Telecom in France, TriNet in Thailand, MTN in Afghanistan and Vodafone in Iceland.
In Sweden, BSNL users will be charged Rs 62.86 per minute for all local and national calls, and Rs 44 for all calls to India. In France, the rate is Rs 12.57 per minute for all local/national calls and Rs 50.29 for calls to India. In Iceland, the local and national calls will cost Rs Rs 39.87 per minute and calls to India will be charged at Rs 107.76 per minute.
Those availing the BSNL international roaming service in Afghanistan will have to pay Rs 49.20 per minute for domestic and national calls while calls to India will be charged at Rs 118.09 per minute. The rates are lowest in Thailand, where BSNL will charge Rs 6.63 and Rs 38.70 per minute for calls within Thailand and to India, respectively.
BSNL international prepaid roaming service details
In order to avail inetrnational roaming services, BSNL users will have to recharge with the special tariff voucher (STV) IR57. Additionally, they will need to replace their existing BSNL SIM card with a new international roaming SIM to enable the service. BSNL has also highlighted that BSNL customers using international roaming will be charged for all calls including terminated calls. Users will also be charged separately for data and SMS used.
