BSNL seeks more senior technical officer to ensure uninterrupted service

New Delhi: The state-owned telecommunications firm BSNL has urged the telecommunications department to deploy an adequate number of senior ITS officials in key management positions to ensure uninterrupted service to its customers.
The company has implemented a voluntary retirement plan to reduce the number of employees and related expenses.

The BSNL has also expressed concern to the Department of Telecommunications about the orders issued by him for the repatriation or delegation of some employees to other organizations, which is creating indiscipline between certain rooms of the deployed officers.
After the announcement of VRS, the Director of Human Resources of BSNL, Arvind Vadnerkar, wrote to the DoT citing its President and Managing Director, PK Purwar, the request in July for the deployment of 200 additional STI officers in addition to the 550 existing employees already deployed in the organization in important senior management positions. in the public sector firm.
“BSNL is going through a crisis situation in which to occupy the entire key management position is the need to guarantee an uninterrupted service to valuable customers in the best commercial interest of the company,” Vadnerkar said in the letter.
In October, the government approved a reactivation package of Rs 68,751 million for BSNL and MTNL, which includes the allocation of the 4G spectrum and the voluntary retirement scheme, as well as its merger.
Vadnerkar said a periodic change in the dispatch of officers is desirable to meet urgent labor requirements across the field, but some officers get involved with the DoT to seek a favorable order to remain in the circle or area where they were sent.
The BSNL Human Resources Director said there are about 32 ITS (Indian Telecommunications Service) officers seeking relief from BSNL, who have been selected to be deputies or repatriated to DoT according to the department’s orders.
“Such a tendency to bypass the orders of the competent authority in BSNL shows growing evidence of indiscipline among a certain quarter of the deployed officers,” said Vadnerkar.
According to the ITS Association, the officers deployed in BSNL by the DoT have repeatedly expressed their concern about the delay in the payment of salaries, fees and the discriminatory treatment imposed on them by the organization to discourage them from working for the PSU and, therefore, they demanded their repatriation.
Representatives of the association said that the BSNL is running out of officers because it has offered VRS to 803 senior officers, of which 458 have opted for it.
“When BSNL needs grade A officers to occupy an important position, management should not have offered them VRS. Instead of requiring DoT ITS officers, BSNL should send around 550 ITS to the department. This will help them save more. of 500 million rupees, “said the president of his association, PK Jain.
Total, one lakh BSNL employees are eligible for the Voluntary Retirement Plan (VRS) of their total staff strength of approximately 1.50 lakh.
The effective voluntary retirement date under this scheme is January 31, 2020.
More than 92,000 employees of BSNL and MTNL have opted for VRS. BSNL is looking for savings of around Rs 7,000 crore in the wage bill, if 70,000-80,000 people opt for the scheme.
