Jio GigaFiber vs BSNL: How Jio’s new broadband service can compete against BSNL’s broadband plans

Jio GigaFiber launch is one of the most anticipated events in the Indian broadband industry as Reliance Jio’s foray into the FTTH broadband segment is expected to completely disrupt the industry. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), which is the leading player in the broadband industry, in terms of subscriber base, is gearing up for the upcoming competition has launched some new BSNL broadband plans while also revising some of the existing ones.

If recent reports are to be believed, Jio GigaFiber plans and prices might start from Rs. 500 per month with at least 300GB of data as well as broadband speeds up to 100Mbps. Moreover, Jio GigaFiber speeds are claimed to be as high as 1Gbps while added features of the service will also include a Jio GigaTV router with integration for Jio GigaTV calling, as well.
Moreover, while BSNL is launching back to back broadband plans, Reliance Jio has already announced the Jio GigaFiber Preview Offer which will come with 100GB of monthly data at a speed of 100Mbps for the first three months of getting a new Jio GigaFiber connection. Jio GigaFiber vs BSNL: How Jio’s new broadband service can compete against BSNL’s broadband plans

  1. BSNL Rs. 299 broadband plan: 45GB data and 8Mbps speed for one month, unlimited local and STD voice calls on the BSNL network, unlimited voice calls to any network within the country from 10:30 pm to 6 am (from Monday to Saturday) and on Sundays, and free voice calling benefit worth Rs. 300 to any network. After the 45GB data limit, subscribers can still access the internet at 1Mbps for the remaining validity period.
  2. BSNL Rs. 675 broadband plan: 5GB of daily data at 10Mbps, unlimited local and STD voice calling benefit on any network within India.
  3. BSNL Rs. 845 broadband plan: 10GB of daily data at 10Mbps, unlimited local and STD voice calling benefit on any network within India.
  4. BSNL Rs. 999 broadband plan: 15GB of daily data at 10Mbps, unlimited local and STD voice calling benefit on any network within India. 
  5. BSNL Rs. 1199 broadband plan: 20GB of daily data at 10Mbps, unlimited local and STD voice calling benefit on any network within India
  6. BSNL BBG Combo ULD 1495 broadband plan: 25GB of daily data at 10Mbps, unlimited local and STD voice calling benefit on any network within India. 
  7. BSNL BBG Combo 1745 VDSL broadband plan: 30GB daily data at 16Mbps speeds along with unlimited local and STD voice calling benefit on any network within India.
  8. BSNL BBG Combo ULD 2295 broadband plan: 35GB daily data at 24Mbps speeds along with unlimited local and STD voice calling benefit on any network within India.

In order to compete with Jio GigaFiber and to add as many subscribers as it can before Reliance Jio’s debut in the Indian broadband industry, BSNL has also launched a new offer under which subscribers of half-yearly and yearly BSNL broadband plans will get 25 per cent discount on the total subscription price.

In comparison, Jio GigaFiber broadband plans are expected to to be priced at Rs. 500, Rs. 750, Rs. 999, Rs. 1,299 and Rs. 1,500 for the basic plans. These Jio GigaFiber broadband plans will come with 300GB, 450GB, 600GB, 750GB and 900GB of monthly data, respectively with up to 100Mbps speed.
