BSNL Announces Massive Revision of Broadband Plans: Now Offers Up to 1.1TB Data to Stand Out From the Crowd

A number of internet service providers are bracing for the impact that Reliance Jio’s GigaFiber is set to create, one it formally opens its services for users. A number of changes in plans have been made in the recent few weeks, by Airtel Broadband, ACT Fibernet and other players, in a bid to retain
customers from leaving and now state-owned Internet Service provider, BSNL doesn’t want to be left behind.
BSNL’s changes to its broadband plans:

This isn’t the first attempt by the state-owned broadband company, as it had just recently revised the Rs. 699 broadband plan, in the Chennai circle. Now the PSU has modified four of its plans namely the Rs 875, Rs 1,025, Rs 1,091 and Rs 1,199 plans. With the new changes, the broadband service comes with up to 1.1TB of FUP in a billing cycle.

This makes BSNL stand out as the clear winner when it comes for value for money as no other plans by any other operator, including Reliance Jio, comes anywhere close to the benefits offered in these plans by BSNL. The only catch is that the state-owned telecom operator has initiated the changes for these plans only in the Chennai circle as of now. However, since these plans are available on a pan India basis, it is expected that the changes will be made in all circles as well.

Changes to the plans explored:

The cheapest plan on the list is the Rs. 875 plan, which is termed as the BBG Combo ULD 875 plan. This plan had been offering 10Mbps internet download speed. Now with the revision, BSNL will be offering 20Mbps broadband speeds with a FUP limit of 800GB per month. Once this monthly limit is exhausted, the company will downgrade the speed to 2Mbps, without any further cap on download or browsing limits.

In addition to internet connectivity, much like most other plans, this plan also provides unlimited voice calls to any number in India and also 2GB of e-mail storage space during the validity period. The second plan that has undergone change is the BBG Combo ULD 1025 that is priced at Rs. 1,025 per month. This plan used to offer speeds up to 10Mbps with a data FUP limit of 30GB.

Beyond this FUP limit, the speed would be restricted to 2Mbps with unlimited browsing. However, now with the revision, the browsing speed has been increased to 20Mbps with an increase in the FUP limit to 900GB and beyond this, the speed will remain 2Mbps. Similarly, the third plan, BG Combo ULD 1091, which is priced at Rs. 1,091 used to offer speeds of 10Mbps will a data FUP limit of 60GB per month.

With the revisions, both these have been bumped up to 20Mbps and 900GB per month respectively. Beyond the FUP Limit, the company will be providing unlimited browsing at 2Mbps speed. Both these plans offer 5GB e-mail storage as well as unlimited landline calls to any network in the country.

Changes to the Rs. 1,199:

The BBG Combo ULD 1199 is one of the most popular plans and this has also been modified. It previously used to offer users speeds of 10Mbps with a FUP limit of 40GB, which has now been modified to a whopping 20Mbps and 1.1TB (or 1100GB) every month.

Beyond this limit, the speed is restricted to 2Mbps. It also comes with unlimited landline voice calls anywhere in India. This 1199 plan shouldn’t be confused with the 1199 Family plan that BSNL offers, as this plan hasn’t been modified or upgraded by the company yet.
