Google shuts down cloud project, says no plan to offer cloud services in China

Alphabet Inc's Google said on Wednesday it has shut down its cloud project named "Isolated Region" and added that it was not weighing options to offer its cloud platform in China.

Earlier in the day, Bloomberg News reported, citing two employees, that Google had shelved the project in China and other politically sensitive countries in May, partly due to rising geopolitical tensions and the pandemic.

The process of selling assets of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) i.e. asset monetization has been greatly accelerated. The central government has started the process of landholding of BSNL and MTNL. In its first phase, the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) has entrusted consultancy firms CBRE Group, Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), and Knight Frank to explore possibilities of selling properties in Corona Works. They will submit their report by the end of this month.

Unlike many other special plans being provided by the other private telcos, the internet plan launched by BSNL has been rolled out on a regular basis. India’s 5G trial conditions may trip China; Huawei, ZTE may find difficult to meet these IB demands

Tech Mahindra Likely to Bid for BSNL 4G Tender

Tech Mahindra To Bid For BSNL’s 4G Tender, To Take On Jio, Huawei And ZTE

Technology company and a subsidiary of the Mahindra Group, Tech Mahindra will now bid for the revised tender to supply equipment for fourth-generation (4G) mobile networks to state-owned BSNL.
Last week, BSNL cancelled the tender for Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) for the upgradation of the existing 4G network across 47,000 sites and building new capabilities in Mumbai and Delhi. This was after the government barred state-run telecom firms to purchase equipment from Chinese companies such as Huawei and ZTE, in the wake of border clashes between the two countries in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley last month. ZTE had partnered with Nokia to bid for the tender, which is estimated to be worth INR 9000 Cr.

NEW DELHI: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Wednesday cancelled the tender for the fourth generation (4G) network upgradation and expansion, after the government recently barred state-run telcos from sourcing equipment from Chinese players Huawei and ZTE.

"Tender for planning, engineering, supply, installation, testing commissioning and annual maintenance of 4G mobile network in the north, east, west and south zones of BSNL and Delhi and Mumbai LSA of MTNL on turnkey basis issued on March 23, 2020, is hereby canceled." the state-run telco in a notification said.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has extended its “5 pe 6” offer until July 31. Under the promotional offer, the state-owned telecom operator provides a 6 paise cashback to all its broadband and landline customers for making voice calls of at least five minutes long. The offer was extended until June 30 just a couple of weeks back. Originally, BSNL brought the 5 pe 6 offer last year to retain its customers. The extension comes at a time when people are staying indoors due to the coronavirus outbreak and connecting with their friends and relatives largely through voice and video calls.
