BSNL
hits a double whammy as it brings in decorated boxer Mary Kom as its
brand ambassador for two years and also signed a MoU with the Indian
Army for providing them with telecom services for the next three years,
all across India.
BSNL Brand Ambassador: Indian Boxer Mary Kom
According to Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary, Telecom, in the competitive telecom sector, associating with Mary Kom will help BSNL in
improving its brand image and attract more customers. The two-year
contract will see boxer Mary Kom endorsing as well as engaging in
various promotional events organized by BSNL for its different telecom services.
Anupam Srivastava, BSNL’s CMD, said,“The association of
M.C. Mary Kom will certainly help in enhancing brand visibility and
assist BSNL in this era of fierce competition where all operators are
striving hard to gain market share.”
With Mary Kom’s renowned achievement in the world of
sports on global level, she is a popular youth icon; someone the youth
of today identifies with and looks up to, stated Srivastava, making her
an ideal candidate to be BSNL’s brand ambassador. Mary Kom’s identity,
added Srivastava, will allow BSNL to connect with the subscribers on the
micro level.
On her decision to associate herself with BSNL, Mary Kom
stated that she trusts brand BSNL because the state-owned telco is the
only service provider whose reach is in the far-flung places of the
country where no other service provider has reached until now. Also, it
is the only telecom that has been effective in maintaining its services
in disaster-struck regions. Kom further stated that BSNL’s contribution
towards nation building cannot be discounted considering it offers its
robust infrastructure to rural as well as remote areas.
