Thrissur: BSNL has increased the discount in telephone bill to central and state government employees and also for retired staff. Now 10 percent discount will be given to them in the telephone bill. Earlier, 5 percent discount was given to the government staff and pensioners.
BSNL has informed that the 10 percent discount in bill will be given to land phone, broadband and FTTH users. The revised discount scheme will come into force from February 1 onwards.
Staff in public sector firms will get the benefit of the scheme.
BSNL has issued order to give the concession in the bill to present consumers as well as new consumers.
At the same time, eligible consumers should produce documents to prove their eligibility in the BSNL office of their circle to claim the discount. Retired staff are advised to produce a copy of their pension book.
BSNL introduced the discount scheme to government staff in 2008. In the initial phase, a discount of 20 percent was given in the bill amount. Later, the discount was reduced to 10 percent in 2013 and 5 percent in 2015.
Now, BSNL has revised the scheme and revised the discount rate from 5 to 10 percent.
