4G spectrum allotment for Salem SSA expected soon: PGM

The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has taken various steps for uplifting the telecom network in Salem Secondary Switching Area (SSA), S. Sabeesh, Principal General Manager (PGM), Salem SSA, BSNL, has said.

Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Sabeesh said that in the phase VIII.4 project, of the 183 new 3G sites, 104 sites would be converted into 4G sites by this year.
The 4G spectrum allotment was expected for the Salem SSA at any time and 5G facility by 2020.
Mr. Sabeesh said that CMDA (Code-Division Multiple Access) services in Salem SSA would be closed on September 5 as per the instructions of the corporate office. Intimation letters have already been sent to all CDMA customers for availing GSM / landline services as alternative service.
The customers for retaining the WLL numbers can avail the ASEEM plan. The customers have already been informed about the same through the IVRS announcement.
Referring to the development of the land line system, the PGM said that all the 231 telephone exchanges in Salem SSA have been converted into NGN (next generation network).
Another new technology called CDOT MAX NGN was introduced in Tiruchendoge area by replaching the existing CDOT technology. A total of 25 exchanges have been commissioned in Tiruchengode.
New international Wi-Fi+ package with unlimited high speed data through partnership hotspots across the world at Rs. 501 for 30 days has been introduced.
For the broadband customers who were in need of more than eight Mbps speed, the BSNL has already introduced ‘fibre to the home’ technology. It has signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with half a dozen private operators for providing this facility in Namakkal district. In Salem and Namakkal district, a total fo 21 Wi-Fi hot spots were already functioning. Another 51 new sites are proposed this year.
