BSNL to set up Wi-Fi hotspots in 9 states

QuadGen Wireless has partnered with BSNL to set up Wi-Fi hotspots in 9 states focused on Southern and Western India.
The states where QuadGen Wireless can put up hotspots in Southern and Western India include – Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh. In these states, consumers and enterprise users will get Internet speeds between 2 Mbps to 20 Mbps.

As per the agreement, QuadGen Wireless will build, own, operate, manage Wi-Fi services and will also take care of subscriber acquisition, subscriber validation, activation of service, customer support and provide centralized NOC (network operating center). On the other hand, BSNL will provide Internet bandwidth to the tune of 10 Mbps – 100 Mbps to respective hotspots.
For Wi-Fi operations in 9 states, QuadGen Wireless will do a revenue share agreement with BSNL.
QuadGen Wireless has got exclusive rights from BSNL to set up Wi-Fi hotspots in both public and enterprise location in nine states. Hotspots will be put up at government colleges, government hospitals, bus stations, temples, parks, airports, beaches and other public places subject to the permission by local authorities in respective states.
“QuadGen is planning to set up 3,000 – 6,000 hotspots in the next 2 years and investment to the tune of around $8 – $15 million is planned,” says CS Rao of QuadGen Wireless.
Initially, the focus is on setting up Wi-Fi in 100 cities as these cities have maximum smartphones and even Internet awareness is also high. All these parameters will definitely help in exploiting Internet access in these cities.
“Speaking about the challenges with respect to Wi-Fi deployment, CS Rao said, “Power and site permission is the biggest hassle in setting up city based Wi-Fi solution.
