Retired BSNL employees are miffed over the
orders issued by the BSNL to deposit the rent for using the retiree room
at its office.
One of the retired employees has filed an RTI query to know the reason behind issuing the orders.
Satish Kumar Thaman, a retired JTO, said he had filed an RTI query with the Chief General Manager Telecom, Punjab Circle, to enquire about the reason behind asking pensioners to deposit the rent.
“I have sought information under which rules retired employees of the BSNL/DOT are bound to deposit Rs2,400 per month for meetings. I have also asked the authorities to clarify under what circumstances the pensioners have been ill-treated and insulted by imposing a penalty despite the fact that properties were built with the efforts of employees,” Thaman added.
Thaman said he had also sought information that if the GM Ludhiana was allowed to crush the rights of pensioners, it was a clear violation of the Right to Service.
The authorities had also been asked to clarify whether the GM was also told to charge Rs 2,400 per month from the pensioners, he added. He said if the department did not allow the pensioners to use the retiree room, it would be an insult of the employees who worked hard for the department.
