Digital Project Loon receives Indian government approval to beam internet

After Indonesia, Google is reportedly keen on bringing Project Loon to India. The Mountain View-based company is working in tandem with the Indian government to beam internet in the country, by using helium balloons. PTI has quoted a an official source as saying, “Google approached government to set up the Loon project and Drone-based Internet transmission. Government has approved testing of Loon project only as of now.

Internet via balloons: Google may join hands with BSNL for testing

Internet firm Google is working with the government on a pilot project for providing Internet connectivity by using large balloons.
Google, under its 'Project Loon', is using big balloons floating at a height of 20 kilometer above earth surface for transmission of Internet services. It has already tested this technology in New Zealand, California (the US) and Brazil.

Probe into theft of batteries

The Avinashipalayam police have begun an investigation into the alleged theft of 43 batteries kept at a mobile phone tower of BSNL near Ugayanur.The case was registered based on a complaint given by A. Palanisamy, an official of BSNL.

BSNL training programme on Enhance knowledge on latest communication technologies

BSNL, Coimbatore, will conduct a training programme on ‘Enhance knowledge on latest communication technologies’ for college students from November 2015 to February 2016. A release from BSNL said that it would conduct the five-day programme on November 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, December 7, 14, 21 and 28, January 4, 11, 18 and 25 and February 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.

Facebook, BSNL team up to create 100 WiFi zones in rural India

NEW DELHI: US social networking major Facebook has partnered state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) to create 100 WiFi hotspots in rural India to drive digital penetration in the country. Facebook is investing Rs 5 crore per annum for buying bandwidth from BSNL in this joint initiative that also includes IT infrastructure services providers such as Quad Zen and Trimax for equipment and fibre deployment, BSNL chairman and managing director Anupam Shrivastava told ET.
