DoT to rope in private firms for Digital India

In a change of strategy, the department of telecommunications has now decided to rope in private agencies to roll out the R21,000-crore National Optic Fibre Network, as it sees this as the only possible way to meet the fresh deadline of March 2016 set by the Prime Minister’s Office, against December 2016 earlier.

Rs 8,900cr in taxes pending against LIC, SBI, BSNL : Panel

Pulling up Revenue Department for its "inefficiency" in tax recovery, a Parliamentary panel has said that nearly Rs 8,900 crore is pending against just three public sector companies, LIC, SBI and BSNL. The Public Accounts Committee said taxes over Rs 4.08 lakh crore were uncollected in FY 2012 and in FY 2013 the amount was Rs 4.86 lakh crore. "Keeping in view the pendency of such cases in various courts for a long period of time, the Committee would reiterate that the Department of Revenue should take concrete measures to realise revenue in a time bound manner by pursuing these cases vigorously.
