The last few days have been eventful for BSNL. Last week, the state-run telco reportedly said that the bids submitted by domestic vendors are almost 89 per cent higher than the lowest bidder for its 4G network tender. In July, BSNL had scrapped its previous tender in order to avoid participation from Chinese vendors like Huawei and ZTE in the aftermath of cross-border tensions between India and China.

BSNL Intros FRC 47 for Prepaid Users With 28 Days Validity and 14GB Data

State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced a new First Recharge (FRC) of Rs 47 for the prepaid subscribers. The FRC 47 is applicable only to new customers who are performing their first recharge. The plan comes with voice calling, data and SMS benefits for 28 days. It is the cheapest unlimited combo prepaid plan offered by any telecom operator in India right now. The telco might have introduced this recharge to boost the new subscriber additions. Ahead of the much-awaited 4G launch, BSNL is looking to increase the subscriber base that’s currently hovering between 110-120 million. Going by the subscriber base, BSNL is fourth on the list sitting below Vodafone Idea and the gap between the country’s third-largest and fourth-largest telcos is huge. As of December 31, 2020, Vi subscriber base stood at 269.8 million.

Threat to BSNL, tepid listing gains: Analysts' take on RailTel IPO

  RailTel Corporation of India's three-day IPO, which opened on February 16, has already been subscribed 1.5 times on the very first day.  The management of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has failed in implementing the State-owned firm’s revival package to restore its financial health and disburse salaries on time, according to an employees’ union.

"Niti Aayog should not think about disinvestment of BSNL. Government decided to revive it, and if 4G launch is taking place early, it will have a great potential to grow, and 5G can also be launched soon," K. Sebastin, Secretary-General of the Sanchar Nigam Executives’ Association (SNEA) told ETTelecom.

Govt has no plan to close down BSNL, MTNL: Telecom Ministry tells Lok Sabha

 The government has no plan to close down loss-making public sector telecom firms and MTNL, Minister of State for Telecom Sanjay Dhotre told on Wednesday.

The minister shared that BSNL's loss has swelled to Rs 15,500 crore from Rs 14,904 crore, and that of increased to Rs 3,811 crore from Rs 3,398 crore between 2019-20 and 2018-19.

Parliamentary Panel questions BSNL ouster in LWE project, BharatNet Cabinet note delay

 New Delhi: The Department of Telecom has not prepared a cabinet note for the adoption of PPP mode to expedite implementation of rural broadband project Bharatnet even after over a year of Digital Communication Commission's approval, Standing Committee on Information Technology said in a report. The BharatNet project, meant to cover all 2.5 lakh village panchayats with high speed broadband, was set to be completed by March 2019.
