BSNL to start 3G in Jaisalmer in 3-4 months

JAISALMER: BSNL will offer 3G services here within the next 3-4 months and is setting up 38 towers for mobile connectivity, an official said.


In the next 3 to 4 months, BSNL's 3G network would be available for people of this border district, the company's chief general manager Rajneesh Kumar told reporters.

NEW DLEHI: Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today offered to discuss the issue of call drops and poor service by state-owned BSNL and MTNL in the Rajya Sabha.

Prasad made the offer after K N Balagopal (CPI-M) raised the issue of poor quality of service, call drops and non-continuous broadband on MTNL/BSNL network.

Call drops: Prasad asks telcos to shape up, or face action

In a stern warning to telecom operators on the call drop issue, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Sunday said it's not his "job to find towers" and the companies must improve their networks, or face serious action. "Telcos must improve networks, it's not my job to find towers... 93,000 cases disposed of at lok adalats in state

At least 93,477 pre-litigation and 2,931 post-litigation cases were disposed of following mutual compromise at the lok adalats organised in the Patna high court, district courts and subdivisional courts of Bihar on Saturday. India rules out BSNL, MTNL sale

Telco minister reportedly seeing positive results from turnaround effort. India's government this week said it is not planning to divest its stakes in state-owned telcos BSNL and MTNL.

The Economic Times reported on Wednesday that during a session of the Lok Sabha – India's lower house of parliament – telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad was asked whether he was drawing up a proposal to privatise the two operators as part of a broader turnaround strategy, to which he said no.
