Subscribers in lurch as BSNL services remain snapped

Rajouri, Feb 18: India’s largest telecom services provider, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), is giving nightmares to its subscribers in most areas of Rajouri district with mobile connectivity lying snapped in Kotranka and Budhal areas for last seven to eight months. Services of the state owned Telecom Company in Kalakote area also lie disconnected for last couple of weeks.
Talking to Greater Kashmir locals from Kalakote area informed that about nine days back BSNL services got snapped in the area leaving people in a state of lurch. They said that services are yet to be restored “and the concerned officers were approached by but nothing has been done on ground”.
Local BSNL customers including Ashok Kumar, Satpal Sharma, Aslam Ahmed and others said that they are using BSNL mobile communication since years and now complete snapping of services has put them in a state of helplessness. “We have to use telephones of other people to get in contact with our near ones”, they said.

Meanwhile, government offices, traders and educational institutions are facing a lot of hardships due to snaping of BSNL services including its mobile, landline and internet services.
On the other hand, residents of Budhal and Kotranka belts of Rajouri district told Greater Kashmir that the connectivity of BSNL is lying snapped in their areas since last seven to eight months. “Services are lying snapped since eight months and the department is giving excuse of road construction work between Rajouri - Kotranka- Budhal”, said locals of the area including Mohammad Ismail, Zaid Sagar, Shah Nawaz and others.

They also claimed that people of the area are switching over to other telecom operators, which could spell doom for the already beleaguered operator. “The issue was put up with concerned officers, on government and political level from time to time but no concrete step has yet been taken to resume the services”, the locals said.

Attempts to contact BSNL officers could not fructify owing lack of response on their part to repeated telephone calls.

Meanwhile, SDM Kotranka, Sukhpal Singh told Greater Kashmir that he has established contact with BSNL officers and repeatedly appraised them about the snapping of services in Kotranka and Budhal “so that same could be restored but they are yet to take steps in this regard”. He also said that day to day work in government offices was also suffering due to lack of connectivity.

When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Deepti Upal, told Greater Kashmir that she will seek details from BSNL authorities on the issue.
