India targets more than Rs 80,000 cr revenues from 2G, 3G auctions

The 20-year licence for 900 MHz for Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India for Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata circles lapsed, a month ago. But the same time, department of telecommunications (DoT) has approved to offer a 45-day extension (till January 14, 2015) to Bharti Airtel and Vodafone for migrating to new frequencies. So that users of the both telecom service providers will not impact till new licences are allotted.

elecom panel says companies need to have Rs 100 crore net worth to participate in airwave auction

Aircel and Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTL) may find it challenging to bid for airwaves in the coming auction with the inter-ministerial committee (IMC) on spectrum auction reiterating its decision on net worth eligibility of bidders. The committee has retained its earlier decision, where it had made it clear that only those with net worth of over Rs 100 crore, irrespective of whether they were holding spectrum or license or were new entrants in a band or a circle, could participate in the upcoming airwave auction. For the North East region and J&K service area, the net worth requirement for companies has been fixed at Rs 50 crore.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India to issue a consultation paper on OTT players by early 2015

The telecom regulator, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is set to issue a consultation paper on regulating the over-the-top players (OTT) by third week of January, 2015. The telecom regulator is of the view that currently there is no law or framework governing the concept of net neutrality in India and thus there is a need to address this issue.

At present, the pricing on the internet is based on validity and the volume of data. The regulator is examining if the current data packs based on these parameters limits the users access to mobile internet. The exercise would also set the scope of regulation of OTT operations in the country.

BSNL revises Landline Pulse rates on PAN India Basis
