Govt extends Rs30,000-cr line of credit to BSNL ahead of 4G rollout

The government has extended a Rs30,000 crore line of comfort for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL). This is over and above the Rs70,000-crore revival package announced for BSNL and MTNL.
The revival package was to fund a Rs29,937 crore voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) for employees above 50 years of age, which is the biggest chunk of the revival package, pay up working capital credit and acquire 4G spectrum,  which it has been lacking so far.

BSNL targets 1 lakh new broadband customers next fiscal

State-run BSNL on Wednesday said it expects to gain at least 1 lakh new broadband customers during the next fiscal in rural areas under its new Bharat Airfibre service.
The connections will be sold through a partner registered with it and the broadband service will be provided using wi-fi frequency range using free radiowaves.

BSNL plans tender to finalize 4G network suppliers

Reliance Jio is India’s #1 4G service provider. Bharti Airtel is in the second position in the 4G business, while Vodafone Idea is in the third position. BSNL could not generate enough mobile data revenue due to its absence in 4G business.
BSNL is selecting its 4G network supplier at a time when the company defaulted on payment to several suppliers. BSNL chairman and managing director PK Purwar recently said that the outstanding dues to suppliers were around Rs 10,000 crore.

A package worth Rs 70,000 crore had also promised 4G spectrum for BSNL.

BSNL, MTNL VRS scheme: Employees opting for VRS will have to wait till FY21 for dues

Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) employees, who have opted for voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) scheme, will have to wait for next fiscal year (FY21) to get their dues.
The reason for this delay is because the Union Budget 2020 has not made any provisions for disbursement towards the programme in FY20.

Both the Rs 1,699 and Rs 1,999 prepaid plans are available in the majority of the circles where BSNL is operating right now. The Rs 1,699 plan is an open market one, whereas the Rs 1,999 prepaid recharge can be availed only in select markets like Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh & Telangana.

The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited recently modified its popular yearly prepaid plan of Rs 1999. The plan now comes with Rs 3GB data per day, BSNL TV subscription. Apart from that, the plan which was valid for 365 days now gets an added 71 days validity. BSNL announced this update on Republic Day 2020.
A user can only avail the extra validity benefit of 71 days, if they recharge before February 15, 2020. The plan comes with 250 minutes of calling facility to any network along with BSNL Tunes subscription and 100 SMSes per day. However, the Rs 1999 plan is only available in selected states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
