KOLKATA: Bharat Sanchar Nigam's (BSNL) interim chairman and managing
director, AN Rai, has applied for the position of member at Telecom
Disputes Settlement & Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT), a slot that has
been vacant for nearly two years.
His move comes at a time when the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet is slated to shortly name a full-fledged chairman and managing director for the state-run telecom company to succeed RK Upadhyay, who retired in June. Though Rai has been officiating as BSNL's interim chairman since July, its director of consumer mobility, Anupam Shrivastava, is seen as the top contender for the CMD's job. More so, since both the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) have supported Shrivastava for the position.
